Check your smoke alarm

This year’s European Smoke Alarm Day takes place on 22 November. The day’s key aims are to urge more governments to mandate smoke alarms in all domestic homes, raise awareness of national and local smoke alarm campaigns, and educate the public on the life-saving benefits of smoke alarms. The European Fire Safety Alliance, which organises the day, says by installing a smoke alarm, householders can reduce the chances of a fire occurring in their house by 75%, and are four times less likely to die if a fire does occur. In addition to the day, a longer awareness-raising campaign is running from November through December 2024 to share fire safety tips and promote best practice for smoke alarm installation and maintenance.
