Injury prevention vital for UN-Sustainable Development Goals
From 18-21 September, Safety 2016 the 12th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion was hosted by the National Institute for Health and Welfare of Finland. The conference convened around 1,200 of the world's leading researchers, practitioners and advocates in the field of violence and injury prevention under the theme "From Research to Implementation".
Presentations focused on the idea that preventing violence and injuries will lead to further attainment of the UN-SDGs, through which world leaders have recognized injuries as urgent priorities for action: to cut road traffic deaths by 50% by 2020; to end violence against women and girls; to provide safe and sustainable transport; and to end violence against children.
The conference resulted in the "Tampere Declaration", issuing a call to action for stronger injury prevention and safety promotion.
