Every parent, as well as society as a whole, has a responsibility to give young people a safe environment in which to live, learn, grow and play. Yet, injury is the leading cause of death and disability for children in every Member State in Europe.
Child injury is preventable: there are proven effective strategies that prevent injury or reduce the severity of its outcome. A number of countries have started national and local programmes dedicated to child injury prevention and are making steady progress to enhance children's safety. Such programmes deserve a wider implementation across Europe.
EuroSafe encourages the adoption of child injury evidence-based good practices throughout Europe and helps to strengthen the capacity of professionals in health and all relevant sectors to child injury prevention by enhancing awareness, knowledge and skills to address childhood injury.
